The missions of BPS Archives are to protect and preserve the history of BPS, its students, graduates, teachers and staff through the collection and display of BPS related artifacts, to make available to the public those artifacts consistent with best archival practices, to foster community and student interest in BPS student, graduate, teacher, staff and institutional history as a valuable, critical aspect of life, and to support the missions of BPS in serving its students and community. The Hall of Fame, with its emphasis on education, directly teaches our students that there are, indeed, “prophets” who we can recognize as being among us, having come from our common roots in our common land. It is said that a prophet cannot be recognized within a prophet’s own land. While it is now in its third decade, this Gichi-ziibi ceremony will be the first time Hall of Fame induction will occur in the presence of so many of our students, who will hear about and see these remarkable graduates who come from among us. The Hall of Fame is an important educational component of BPS learning. In early October, in front of approximately 600 Brainerd High School juniors and seniors, Brainerd Public Schools will induct four graduates into its Distinguished Achievement Hall of Fame at a ceremony in the Gichi-ziibi Center, bringing Hall of Fame membership to approximately 80 from perhaps 30,000 who have graduated over the almost 150 years of Brainerd public education.
